We’re looking for someone to join the Façade Engineering team who has a strong technical and practical focus within their passion for façades. You would be joining a well established team who are now focusing on specific sectors to enhance and grow. This is a unique opportunity to join as we focus on the Technical Due Diligence service and to be part of the vision. The team has a wide range of technically demanding projects and with such an enviable portfolio - including recent deliveries such as the Museum of the Future in Dubai, Battersea Power Station redevelopment, and Stratford Waterfront. You would be working closely with our Technical due diligence Lead to support and expand our service in this field. Key aspects would include site inspections, condition assessments, performance analysis, defect investigation, compliance validation, reports and client facing.
Your next role:
- Perform as a Facades Job leader for projects.
- Work as part of a single or multi-disciplinary team attending and chairing meetings with architects, contractors, etc. in an advisory capacity.
- Developing jobs technically to reach conclusions or recommendations.
- Provide input on bids and work-winning.
- Support senior staff in providing strong design leadership on Façade Issues to the rest of the Client’s team and stakeholders.
- Maintain good client relations throughout the job and work with a variety of stakeholders.
- Mentor more junior team members, potentially leading to line management.
Your skills and experience:
- We envision that this position will interest a technically competent person with a solid foundation of Façade Engineering experience and provide an opportunity to further advance your career whilst working on some iconic global projects and significant clients.
- You will have a practical understanding of typical façade systems having had experience on site during installation, opening up works or investigations.
- You will be familiar with façade detailed drawings and be able to identify and understand the support/restraint strategy, weathertightness approach, passive fire strategy, thermal lines and cold bridges, airtightness strategy and movement/tolerance strategy.
- You will be proficient in your knowledge of façade performance such that you can identify issues that may affect functionality and longevity. This would include weathertightness, thermal insulation and materials.
- Ideally you will have a foundation knowledge of façade structural behaviour and be able to identify potential structural issues.
- Experience of the practical aspects of handling and fabricating typical cladding materials.
- Academic knowledge of principles for Structural Engineering, MEP Services, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a joint qualification in any of these. Other formal qualifications such as the MSc in Façade Engineering from Bath University or PhD level research would naturally be of great interest.
- Achieved Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer or equivalent registration with the ECUK or other appropriate body
- Ideally you will also have experience working on international projects, as well as domestic projects and be interested and willing to travel from time to time, especially to local sites.
- Ideally you will be an established Senior Engineer who can confidently provide design leadership in the Facades Discipline, from a secure technical base. Additionally, this role might suit an experienced Engineer ready and eager to take the next step and take the lead on complex projects.
- Naturally this role will require you to have a proactive approach to identifying potential risks or issues, ability to capture information succinctly and to provide comprehensive recommendations.
- Ideally you will be able to understand and react to the changing design of the overall building and be able to communicate your ideas clearly in speech and good quality hand sketches, or other means as necessary. The ability to develop ideas convincingly “on the page” in a meeting will be a significant advantage.
