Your key duties
Buro Happold is appointed as the designer and on-site supervisor on a very large marine and infrastructure project in an area known as Al Khiran, circa 90 km south of Kuwait City.
A position has arisen to work on this exciting project within the existing Buro Happold site team in Kuwait in the implementation of the second phase of the project. The position is for an experienced site based civil engineer with utility and roads infrastructure engineering experience. You will be carrying out the supervision and oversight of the execution of the civil engineering works on site. The role involves working with a small team of engineers and technically qualified inspectors. The incumbent will report to the Engineer’s Representative.
The engineer will need to have significant civil engineering experience, and must be able to:
- Recognise something which appears questionable, then investigate and put in place measures to resolve.
- Demonstrate detailed experience and knowledge of at least two areas of civil engineering discipline knowledge.
- Demonstrate a broad knowledge of civil engineering.
- Determine the safety of work being undertaken and measures in place to achieve that.
The Project - Sabah Al-Ahmad Sea City
La’Ala Al Kuwait Real Estate is undertaking a real estate development South of Kuwait City known as Sabah Al-Ahmad Sea City. The development comprises the construction of the complete utility infrastructure for roads, storm water, sanitary sewer, potable water, irrigation pipelines, electrical and telecommunications networks and electrical substations.
A Contractor appointed by the Client executes the works currently ongoing on site.
Phase A of the Project is completed, and this position relates to Phase B of the Project.
Phase A of the Project has been ongoing for in excess of 20 years and Phase B is envisaged to continue for of the order of a further 10 years minimum.

Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer, you will hold a leadership position, responsible for providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and overseeing complex engineering projects. Your role will involve primarily interfacing with the contractor who is constructing the works but also interfacing with multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring the successful execution of projects.
Overview of the responsibilities associated with this position:
Technical Leadership:
- Serve as a technical authority in your field of expertise, providing guidance and insights on complex engineering challenges.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements to drive innovation within the organization.
Project Management:
- Identifying risks and recommend risk mitigating measures as needed.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage and mentor a team of supervision technicians / engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to support the professional growth of the team members.
Quality Assurance:
- Enforce rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure the reliability and performance of engineering deliverables.
- Review and approve technical documentation, designs, and reports.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that all engineering projects comply with relevant local and international regulations, codes, and standards.
- Work as necessary with regulatory bodies to obtain necessary approvals.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess project risks, developing strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, and efficiency gains within the engineering department.
- Lead initiatives to implement best practices and enhance the overall effectiveness of engineering processes.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on project progress, addressing concerns, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Your skills and experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in a senior engineering role, demonstrating successful project leadership.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
- Ability to manage / lead teams. Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Ability to work in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
- Accreditation with the Kuwait Society of Engineers is a prerequisite. On-line accreditation is recommended.
