Director of FP&A

We are looking for an FP&A Director on a fixed term contract. This role is a key in the global finance team, delivering step changing financial information & Insight.

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will oversee the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities within the practice. This role is crucial for driving strategic financial decisions, enhancing profitability, and ensuring sustainable growth. 

This role sits in the finance leadership team and will work closely with a variety of senior stakeholders across the business.

The Role

This role is a key in the global finance team, delivering step changing financial information & Insight.

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will oversee the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis activities within the practice. This role is crucial for driving strategic financial decisions, enhancing profitability, and ensuring sustainable growth. 

This role sits in the finance leadership team and will work closely with a variety of senior stakeholders across the business.

 

Responsibilities

A leader in the global finance team, communicating, coordinating, and delivering key financial information, 

As a leader you will create a network of stakeholders around the practice, and be responsible for communicating, advising, and approving key financial activities.  

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of financial modelling and forecasting.

You will be responsible for driving leading edge data visualisation and market insight:

  • Step changing financial insights & storytelling, to support timely decision making & risk mitigation
  • Practice wide financial literacy programme
  • Timely global market insight (headwinds & tailwinds), + client / market & sector reporting

Responsible for governing all financial timetables and global alignment with focus on accuracy and timely delivery.

Forward looking and proactive in making our finance team fit for future growth and a centre of excellence.

  • Leading the global multi-region / multi-discipline management accounts consolidation process for month-end, budget, and forecasts
  • Deliver robust planning process including annual budget and quarterly forecast.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to produce accurate forecasts, focused on Profit, revenue, project margins, and cash / DSO.
  • Maintain a suite of financial KPIs that evolve with the practice as we move through our period of strategic growth.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Produce financial reports/dashboard – Interpretation of results, ensure reporting provides insightful commentary and actions focused.
  • Support the practice's long-term strategic plan refresh (1,3,6-year plan); through building models and defining key assumptions and plans.
  • Maintain and improve on the budget & forecast financial model in the business, potential to introduce a budget & reporting tool.  
  • Introduce scenario & sensitivity analysis on key drivers, to identify areas of risk, anticipating challenges & ensuring correct reporting / governance is in place.
  • Own and maintain financial risks and opportunities log, with focused action plans.
  • Identify areas of improvement - Align to global risk matrix.   Improvements include (not exclusive to) governance, controls, automation, efficiencies and supporting future growth.
  • Create and own the production of a global finance literacy programme
  • Manage and mentor a team of 6 FP&A and reporting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Ad hoc activities as required.

 

 

Skills & Experince

Required Skills, Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Significant experience in a similar role – FP&A 
  • Significant financial analysis and numerical capability.
  • Broad experience and knowledge of finance function.
  • Qualified CIMA/ACCA. 
  • Experience in communicating and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of having operated at a similar level of responsibility, providing technical accounting and financial information, along with guiding and supporting strategic and tactical decision making.

 

Desirable skills:

  • Experience of professional services or the construction industry would be an advantage.
  • Experience of Agresso accounting system would be useful but not essential.
  • Experience of Deltek Vision would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Applied strategic thinking and complex problem solving.
  • Strong team player, yet comfortable to work autonomously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deal with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Highly organised with the proven ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
  • Confident, proactive character, with the ability to take the lead in challenging situations; able to work unsupervised and use own initiative.
  • Positive and collaborative approach to support and grow the global Buro Happold business.
  • Resilient with excellent communication skills and demonstrable attention to detail.
