Commercial Manager

We are seeking an experienced technical Commercial Manager at Associate / Associate Director grade to join our Cities Project Leadership (CPL) team, supporting the delivery of major, complex projects across the UK and internationally.

The role can be based from either our London or Bath offices on a hydrid working arrangement.

This role is primarily project‑focused and sits within an experienced leadership team responsible for overseeing the technical, commercial and financial performance of some of Buro Happold’s largest Cities projects. You will work closely with Project Directors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are well governed, commercially sound and delivered to the highest standards.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working as part of the project leadership team, you will:
  • Oversee the commercial, financial and technical performance of projects or defined work packages
  • Lead project planning activities including programme, budgets, risk and change management
  • Support Project Directors in providing clear commercial direction to internal teams
  • Engage with client commercial representatives on change, variations, compensation events and risk
  • Liaise closely with technical teams to understand impacts of change and manage risk proactively
  • Support bidding and work‑winning activity, working with Buro Happold’s central Legal and Commercial teams
  • Lead and support more junior colleagues, contributing to the development of commercial capability within the team
  • Act as a representative of Buro Happold with clients and project partners

About you:

You will be an established commercial or project leader with experience working in complex, multidisciplinary environments. You are comfortable operating at senior level, supporting both project delivery and client relationships.

You will typically have:

  • Experience delivering major infrastructure or urban development projects (e.g. urban development, highways, utilities), ideally across the UK and Middle East
  • A good technical understanding of infrastructure engineering disciplines, gained through design, contracting or commercial/QS roles
  • A strong track record in commercial management and project leadership
  • Experience procuring and managing sub‑consultants
  • Experience setting up and managing large multidisciplinary teams, including programme, financial and technical performance
  • Experience preparing fee estimates, proposals and supporting commercial negotiations
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with senior clients and stakeholders
