Buro Happold is recruiting for an Associate Sustainability Consultant to join our Sustainability team.
Despite global efforts to reach consensus at COP26, the world is still facing the stark reality of breaching the 1.5°C warming limit. It is clear that we need immediate and deep reductions in carbon emissions across all sectors to avoid catastrophic climate breakdown.
We are at the leading edge of the decarbonisation agenda, helping our clients to develop decarbonisation strategies to translate their net zero carbon aspirations into meaningful action.
This role is suited to a candidate who is deeply committed to delivering on Net Zero and meeting Climate and Biodiversity Emergency Declaration commitments.
What sort of projects could I work on?
As a Net Zero Carbon specialist in our Sustainability & Physics team you can expect to work on a variety of projects providing bespoke net zero carbon advice and developing decarbonisation strategies for high profile clients within the UK, Europe and across the World. Our team specialises in combining net zero carbon strategies with technical delivery; helping our clients to create ambitious decarbonisation pathways underpinned by realistic and deliverable implementation plans.
You will be working on some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects in our portfolio - recent examples include…
The Francis Crick Institute – delivering a robust net zero carbon and holistic sustainability strategy for one of the largest life sciences laboratory in Europe. Our team supported the Crick to set a realistic and achievable decarbonisation pathway targeting a 50% reduction in operational carbon emissions by 2030 with net zero by 2040.
Santa Monica City Hall East - our sustainability and energy consultancy has helped design an all-electric, net-zero energy and net-zero water building which will meet the world’s most rigorous criteria for sustainability and resiliency.
One Angel Square – the Co-operative headquarters in Manchester aspired to achieve low levels of operational energy and has achieved a DEC A in use, it also received the highest ever BREEAM Outstanding score in the UK (95.1%) at the time of certification.
David Attenborough Building – this project involved major refurbishment of a 17,000m2 mixed-use University of Cambridge building, originally constructed during the 1960’s. Our Sustainability and energy efficient designs resulted in a 40% reduction in operational carbon emissions
Dubai Expo 2020 Sustainability Pavilion - where we led the net zero energy strategy, incorporating innovative ‘Energy trees’ which are equipped with solar panels, rotating like sunflowers to capture energy from the sun.
