Senior ESG Consultant

Want to work with the most sought-after minds and most-talked about projects? 

We are seeking a Senior or Associate ESG Consultant to support ESG delivery for real estate clients involved in development and asset management. Input into target-setting, acquisitions and implementation to improve ESG performance across client portfolios. There is a potential for this role to be seconded directly to investor client to embed delivery of ESG targets.

Key duties:

Project performance 

  • Support client-side development managers to integrate targets into project briefs
  • Help designs team to understand the client’s approach and priorities. Get to know key decision makers in the project team.
  • Monitor and review project particulars at regular intervals and at the end of each design stage.
  • Identify where there are risks to project performance. Support the development manager to reduce those risks. 
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports. 

Manage development processes

  • Input into annual updates to ESG documentation (e.g. Employers Requirements, consultant Scope of Works etc.).
  • Monitor the implementation of ESG policy and documents 
  • Ensure that ESG documents are understood and appreciated across development teams.
  • Assist in managing the supply chain for sustainable design including sustainability consultants, LCA, energy modelling

Acquisitions

  • Review proposed acquisitions against client ESG targets.
  • Help to manage client stakeholders including originators and funds managers.
  • Produce due diligence findings and recommendations for submission to Investment Committees.

Subject matter expert

  • Be a subject matter expert for all ESG issues for real estate, both emerging and established standards.
  • Obtain briefings from Buro Happold colleagues or others where required.
  • Synthesise knowledge and articulate its impact on projects as required.

 

Your skills and experience:

  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas; Energy and Carbon; Building Performance; Natural Capital; Climate Resilience; External Environments; Health & Wellbeing; Social Value; Circular economy.
  • Experience working with design and construction teams to deliver sustainable outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective and confident manner.
  • Working knowledge of wellbeing and sustainable design techniques, analysis or modelling relevant to the construction industry or corporate strategies.
  • Experience in undertaking technical analysis, and the development of suitable responsive strategies.
  • Experience producing high quality graphical and written outputs.
  • Strong facilitation and team working skills and a drive to deliver outstanding results.
  • Relevant Degree in Engineering or Sustainability and preferably chartered with a relevant professional institution.
