Your next role


The primary purpose of the role is to provide exceptional technical and design leadership to the electrical discipline pan-India.


You will demonstrate a dynamic and determined commitment to technical excellence and project performance. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the highest standards of technical quality within our projects; continuously evolving the department, in collaboration with the Group Discipline Leader, through innovation and creativity.


You will also play a key role in advancing the discipline strategy, partnering with both India and International stakeholders to help drive technical innovation in the discipline. 


The primary functions of the role are defined as follows;

  • Acting as an internal and external figurehead for technical leadership in the electrical discipline in India. 
  • Taking an active role in training and mentorship at all levels. 
  • Maintaining and developing the highest standards of technical quality; continuously seeking to develop the discipline through innovation and creativity.
  • Supporting the Group Leader in the delivery of the group strategy. 
  • Contributing to active collaboration with our Global teams. 
  • Actively seeking out and securing new projects which will lead to profitable work; maintaining productive relationships with key clients to make sure that sustainable levels of new and repeat business are achieved;
  • Taking ownership for key client and collaborator relationships where required and appropriate.

Key Duties

  • Acting a Project Leader for multi-disciplinary projects operating across multiple Groups, working with a Project Director to take overall responsibility for the technical and financial performance of the projects. 
  • Being a technical champion for the delivery of high quality, robust and correct designs 
  • Taking ownership for High Voltage systems and resilient designs with an ability to mentor others while retaining responsibility for product delivery. 
  • Participating in and ensuring delivery of high-level project technical/quality reviews of specifications, reports and drawings produced by the team. 
  • Mentoring more junior employees so that meaningful delegation can apply within the team. 
  • Ensuring the latest learning and development initiatives are implemented as required within the team. 
  • Preparing project delivery programmes and scheduling required resources, contributing to the Group's resource management activities to ensure the correct balance between resource requirements and resource availability. 
  • Supporting the rigorous analysis of performance across the department from a technical, commercial, financial and people perspective. 
  • Organising project workshops to ensure that the wider expertise of the firm is available to the project. Ensuring that regular project reviews are organized within the team to ensure detailed checking of output in accordance with our Quality Management System (QMS). 
  • Promoting Buro Happold’s integrated services to potential Clients. 
  • Reviewing financial and technical submissions/proposals; attending interviews. 
  • Developing and maintaining key client relationships under all circumstances, maximizing opportunities for repeat business. 
  • Delivering repeat business with key clients by virtue of a high-quality delivery of existing projects. 
  • Ensuring projects are financially successful.


Your skills & experience

  • Experienced technical and commercial leader in the Electrical discipline; track record of exceptional delivery over a sustained period within the industry (typically 18+ years).
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver project solutions in a coordinated project environment;
  • Comfortable in a client-facing role and spending significant periods of time “client side”. Leading presentations and managing complex stakeholder groups to ensure consensus.
  • Experience enhancing and driving the digitalisation of the delivery process. 
  • Design and delivery of High Voltage Systems, highly resilient systems and specialist Extra Low Voltage systems that might be required when working in a secure environment.
  • High level of technical competency in all aspects of electrical engineering plus a broad understanding of the principles of other building services and related building design disciplines.
  • Excellent communicator (verbal, written, listening) and competent at presenting.
  • Chartered with a relevant institution, e.g. CIBSE or IET.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng) or Master’s degree (MEng) / MSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering from premier institutes in India.
