Senior Mechanical Engineer (Buro Happold Consulting Engineers, Inc., New York, NY):
- Work on the mechanical engineering design of alterations to major building HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning) systems to achieve financial and energy performance metrics.
- Review targeted HVAC systems and buildings to identify and mitigate technical and commercial risks to projects.
- Maintain continuous and simultaneous awareness of commercial and technical impacts of design decisions.
- Work on the mechanical engineering design of HVAC systems for new buildings and major building alterations to meet budget, comfort, architectural, and energy consumption metrics.
- Work on various HVAC and new system types by abstracting and extrapolating from familiar system types and fundamental mechanical engineering concepts.
- Review contractor work on projects to ensure conformity with design, identify risk areas for commercial claims by contractors to complete the intended scope of projects, and advise building owners regarding maintaining the commercial and technical performance of projects by conforming contractor work to designs and mitigating contractor claims.
- Maintain awareness of key design aspects to the commercial success of HVAC interventions for building owners in construction meetings to resolve issues and protect these key aspects.
- Maintain an understanding of the commercial positions of owners, contractors, and engineers as project risks arise and are managed.
- Review the design work of third-party engineers for conformance with building owners’ energy efficiency-focused design requirements, as well as key aspects of local energy efficiency requirements.
- Utilize owners’ design guidelines and key aspects of regulations to review design documents.
- Work with mechanical engineering of HVAC systems; producing design drawings in Autodesk Revit; utilizing HVAC load calculation software to produce relevant outputs in support of design work; energy modeling; and, completed designs of new buildings or significant alterations including the following HVAC system types: chilled water plants, heat pumps (variable refrigerant flow heat pumps, air to water heat pumps, and/or geothermal heat pumps), variable air volume distribution, fan coil and dedicated outside air system, energy recovery ventilators, perimeter heating systems, direct digital control systems, and low temperature (less than 125 degrees Fahrenheit) heating hot water distribution.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field of study.
- Four (4) years of experience with mechanical engineering of HVAC systems; producing design drawings in Autodesk Revit; utilizing HVAC load calculation software to produce relevant outputs in support of design work; energy modeling; and/or, completed designs of new buildings or significant alterations including the following HVAC system types: chilled water plants, heat pumps (variable refrigerant flow heat pumps, air to water heat pumps, and/or geothermal heat pumps), variable air volume distribution, fan coil and dedicated outside air system, energy recovery ventilators, perimeter heating systems, direct digital control systems, and low temperature (less than 125 degrees Fahrenheit) heating hot water distribution.
