Buro Happold Advisory helps clients make complex decisions and turn them into practical outcomes. We combine business and organisational insight with deep knowledge of assets, infrastructure, technology, engineering and delivery. This means we advise clients on what they should do and how their ambitions can be implemented successfully.

Our work starts with our clients’ challenges. We help organisations understand their choices, establish priorities and make informed decisions about strategy, investment, organisation and delivery. We then help turn those decisions into action through business cases, operating models, delivery strategies, implementation roadmaps, governance arrangements and programmes.

As an Analyst, you will work across a varied portfolio of projects and clients, helping organisations tackle complex challenges relating to the built environment, infrastructure, assets and places. We are looking for people who are curious, numerically and digitally literate, able to think logically, and comfortable working across different areas of our Advisory business and communicating with different audiences. You do not need to arrive as a specialist.

Our Advisory capabilities include:

  • Digital Advisory, helping clients use data and technology to improve decision-making, organisational performance, operations and user outcomes.
  • Programme and Capital Projects Advisory, helping clients translate strategy into delivery, transform estates and operational functions, mobilise major programmes and improve long-term performance.
  • Sustainability Advisory, helping clients respond to environmental, social and economic challenges and establish practical, investable pathways towards more sustainable and resilient organisations, assets and places.
  • Economic Advisory, helping clients understand the economic, social and environmental value of investment and change, and build the evidence needed to support decisions.

You might analyse data to support a strategic or investment decision, contribute to a business case, explore how digital technology could improve an organisation or asset, help develop an estate or programme strategy, assess economic or social value, or support a client to turn sustainability ambitions into a practical plan. Across this work, you will develop an understanding of how organisations plan, invest in, deliver and operate the buildings, infrastructure, assets and places on which they depend.

The team works across a range of consulting areas including strategy, business case development, programme management, data, governance, solution development, innovation and change management. You will work alongside colleagues from across Advisory and Buro Happold’s wider technical disciplines, developing broad consulting skills before deciding where you may wish to deepen your expertise. We are looking for analysts who want to collaborate with clients, our experts in design, and technology internally and externally to make a real-world difference.

Key Duties

As an Analyst, you will:

  • Undertake research and analysis to understand client organisations, sectors, markets and challenges.
  • Gather, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, identifying insights and using evidence to support recommendations.
  • Break down complex or unfamiliar problems into logical questions and develop structured, evidence-based approaches to answering them.
  • Support the development of strategies, business cases, options assessments, investment plans, operating models, roadmaps and other client deliverables.
  • Use digital tools to undertake analysis, communicate findings and explore how data and technology can support better client outcomes.
  • Prepare clear, high-quality reports, presentations and other materials that communicate complex information effectively.
  • Support client interviews and workshops, including preparing materials, capturing insights and helping turn discussions into clear actions.
  • Contribute to client meetings and presentations and develop the confidence to communicate your analysis, reasoning and recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues from different Advisory capabilities and with Buro Happold's wider engineering and technical specialists.
  • Develop an understanding of our clients and build effective working relationships with client teams.
  • Contribute to the development of new approaches, tools and methodologies within Advisory.
  • Build your own skills and expertise through project experience, collaboration, training and support.

Your skills & experience

We are interested in graduates from a wide range of academic backgrounds who are curious about the challenges facing the built environment and the organisations that plan, invest in, deliver and operate it. You might have studied engineering, mathematics, economics, geography, business, management, computer or data science, the built environment, social sciences or another subject that has helped you develop analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and an interest in evidence-based decision-making.

More important than your degree subject is how you think and approach problems.

We are looking for:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach unfamiliar problems logically and structure your thinking.
  • Numerical literacy, with confidence working with numbers, data and quantitative evidence.
  • Digital literacy, with an interest in how data, technology and digital tools can be used to solve problems and improve outcomes.
  • The ability to research unfamiliar subjects, identify what matters and form evidence-based conclusions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information simply.
  • The ability to develop and clearly articulate your own reasoning and point of view.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to work with different people, including colleagues, technical experts and clients.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn about different sectors, organisations and types of problem.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • The ability to organise your work and deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Experience using Excel and PowerPoint will be useful, and experience of data analysis, data visualisation or other digital tools is desirable.
  • You do not need previous consulting experience or detailed knowledge of our sectors, but an interest in the built environment is important. Some knowledge or experience of areas such as construction, real estate, infrastructure, sustainability, digital strategy, innovation or organisational transformation would be beneficial. We are interested in the skills and potential you can bring to the role, as well as your curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

Attributes for success;

You will thrive in Advisory if you:

  • Are curious and enjoy getting to the bottom of difficult questions.
  • Can move between the detail and the bigger picture.
  • Are comfortable using evidence and data to challenge assumptions and develop practical recommendations.
  • Enjoy working with other people and listening to different perspectives.
  • Can communicate your thinking clearly and confidently.
  • Are willing to learn about subjects outside your existing experience.
  • Take ownership of the quality of your work.
  • Are comfortable working across different types of project rather than specialising immediately.
  • Want to understand our clients, the challenges they face and how Buro Happold can help solve them.
