Transportation Modeler

Transportation Modeler

Buro Happold Cities is seeking a Transportation Modeler to join our Mobility team and contribute to mobility projects for public and private clients across the U.S. and internationally. The role involves supporting a range of mobility initiatives, including strategic planning, master planning, pedestrian flow studies, and other technical studies across multiple scales—from regional networks to corridor-level interventions.

The Transportation Modeler will actively apply traffic engineering principles and modeling tools to inform planning decisions and help shape sustainable, equitable mobility solutions. We strongly encourage candidates with a demonstrated understanding of—and interest in—the role mobility planning and engineering play in addressing the climate crisis and advancing racial and social equity.

Here at Buro Happold, expect the exceptional.

From our reputation to our relationships. Wherever your Buro Happold career takes you, it’ll be anything but ordinary.

Your next role

Responsibilities:
Work closely with a cross-functional team of planners, designers, and engineers to deliver transportation studies across the U.S. and internationally. Work in a creative, collaborative environment alongside architects and planners, with a strong emphasis on strategic thinking and integrated design.

Contribute to a wide range of master planning efforts focused on complete streets, intersections, traffic analysis, pedestrian flows, visibility and safety, transit, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, parking, and transportation demand management (TDM).

Bring experience in traffic engineering, operations analysis, and forecasting to support multimodal transportation planning and modeling. Conduct traffic analyses using software such as Vissim and other microsimulation tools, along with GIS for spatial analysis. Apply knowledge of the four-step transportation modeling process—trip generation, trip distribution, mode share, and route assignment—to inform planning decisions. Familiarity with pedestrian modeling software like Viswalk is preferred but not required.

Lead transportation modeling efforts. Develop traffic models to identify and define mitigation measures, support the conceptual design of roads and intersections, and contribute to the design of transportation facilities. Conduct parking studies by calculating demand, evaluating shared parking opportunities, and developing strategies to reduce parking needs and reliance on new infrastructure.

Present and illustrate complex transportation concepts through visualizations, maps, and diagrams. Analyze and visualize data from various sources to support informed decision-making and develop actionable recommendations. Present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and responsiveness throughout the planning and engagement process.
