Structural BIM Engineer

Buro Happold is recruiting for a BIM Engineer to join our Structures Team in Hong Kong. 

You'll be working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced structural engineers along with MEP Engineers, Sustainability Consultants, Façade Engineers, and more.

Your next role...

As a BIM Engineer, your role will be to develop engineering calculations/sketches into 3D models via advanced modelling tools such as Autodesk Revit, ACAD, Navisworks for clash detection and Enscape for presentation. You will also setup, manage and coordinate your models/drawings with other engineering disciplines and will be working closely with the engineering and client teams.

You will have the opportunity to help develop the team of BIM Engineers and depending on your experience, will be mentoring and guiding junior BIM Engineers in their development.


Key Duties:

  • Set up linked models and coordinate models across disciplines.
  • Developing an understanding of industry wide BIM standards
  • Following the established BIM execution plans and adhere to project specific documentation.
  • Ensuring that the model aligns with the standards and goals set in BIM Execution Plan and BIM project workflow criteria.
  • Honing your understanding of Architectural, Structural and MEP services
  • Creating discipline specific BIM Modelling content.
  • Developing accurate construction drawings and extract data based on the discipline BIM platform.
  • Drawing/detail production from engineering sketches/calculations
  • Generating detailed reinforcement drawings and structural steel drawings
  • Ensuring drawing production follows company standards
  • Reviewing model/drawings to check compliance with design
  • Clash detection, resolution and reporting ensuring a coordinated design
  • Using BIM authoring tools to provide technical support and mentoring required to the project team.
  • Be a mentor for more junior team members to support their development.


Your skills & experience:


  • Understanding and experience of leading and doing the structural drawings delivery (from schematic drawings to rebar detail drawings)
  • Ability to do structural modelling using Revit and ability to do drawing production in Revit i.e. knowledge of model, view and sheet planning and set-up
  • Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Extensive experience in the use of Autodesk software’s such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD
  • Delivered structural engineering drawings using BIM for various materials such as Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel
  • Multi-disciplinary understanding and experience in coordination with other disciplines
  • Experience in Clash detection and Use of Navisworks
  • Knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper and Excel
