Resident Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Resident Engineer to work on a number of iconic projects in Central London, This is brilliant opportunity for a site based Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to play a major role in the refurbishment of some of London's most celebrated buildings.

Job Purpose:

  • Site based Engineer on high profile London based construction projects focussing on the interpretation of the design information.
  • Part of team responsible for acting as Guardian of the Design Intent on a project designed by Buro Happold engineers in the UK.
  • Responsible for responding to design related questions raised by the Supervision Consultants and the Project Management Team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Being the Resident Engineer on the project and reporting to Buro Happoild Project Director.
  • Advise Buro Happold Project Director of any technical aspects of the M&E works that may affect construction progress, quality and the like.
  • Respond to Requests for Information raised by the contractor in relation to the information issued for construction and ensure that information from the design engineers is incorporated.
  • Review Contractor’s M&E shop drawings, method statements and material submittals against the contract drawings for compliance where issues associated with the design intent are being questioned.  
  • Undertake general project site observation / inspection of the M&E works for Contractor’s adherence to the design intent in drawings and specification, good working practices, the construction schedule and health & safety.
  • Provide advice to the Buro Happold Project Director in regard to any M&E services related variation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during the course of the works.

Person specification;

  • Significant relevant experience as a site-based electrical or mechanical engineer on large-scale projects in the UK 
  • Ideally you will have some design experience in a consultancy environment;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills 
  • Minimum requirement of HND level education.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience
