Your next role

You will work alongside senior lighting designers and multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to help develop thoughtful, technically sound, and visually compelling lighting solutions.

Your key duties

To give you an idea of how this role would look and feel, here are some of the things you could expect to do:

  • Develop lighting and daylighting design concepts and carry them through to construction documentation
  • Produce the design package: concept design documents, design narratives, lighting criteria matrices, Revit drawings, details, and luminaire specifications
  • Run photometric calculations, daylight analysis, light spill and overshadowing studies, and sun/daylight massing studies, and interpret the results against project criteria, energy codes, and IES recommended practice
  • Develop lighting strategies and master-planning for public realm, city-scale, and architectural projects
  • Produce visualizations and 3D lighting models that communicate design intent
  • Research, evaluate and specify luminaires, including manufacturer coordination, samples, and mockups
  • Coordinate lighting with architecture, landscape, electrical and controls inside BIM-based workflows, and contribute to client and design team meetings
  • Visit sites during construction: installation review, aiming and focus, controls programming support, and construction administration
  • Develop your technical range through structured mentoring and Buro Happold’s global lighting network

Your skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Design, Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of professional experience in architectural lighting or daylighting design
  • Working knowledge of lighting design principles, daylighting, luminaires, controls, codes, and specifications
  • Ability to develop and present design ideas through sketches, diagrams, drawings, and renderings
  • Proficiency in Revit for lighting documentation
  • Proficiency in AGi32 for photometric calculation and analysis; experience with Dialux or Relux also considered; Iray or LightStanza a plus
  • Proficiency in Photoshop; experience with 3ds Max preferred; familiarity with Rhino, Enscape, or Lumion a plus
  • Comfortable working independently and inside a multidisciplinary team

What we offer

  • Salary range of $86,800 - $97,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
