Your next role
You will work alongside senior lighting designers and multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to help develop thoughtful, technically sound, and visually compelling lighting solutions.
Your key duties
To give you an idea of how this role would look and feel, here are some of the things you could expect to do:
- Support the delivery of creative and technical lighting and daylighting design solutions across a variety of project types
- Prepare concept and preliminary design materials, including concept design documents, design notes, reports, drawings, details, and luminaire specifications
- Develop lighting layouts, sections, details, and visual materials using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools
- Contribute to daylight analysis, environmental impact assessments, light spill analysis, overshadowing studies, and sun/daylight massing studies
- Assist with lighting strategies and master-planning for public realm, cities, and architectural projects
- Produce concept visualizations and 3D lighting models to communicate design intent
- Support detailed lighting design, including architectural integration, controls coordination, and luminaire selection
- Assist with lighting control specifications and bespoke luminaire design, where required
- Coordinate with internal teams, architects, contractors, and clients to support project delivery
- Ensure senior team members are kept informed of key design decisions, project progress, and client requirements
- Participate in site monitoring activities, including focusing of luminaires, control system programming support, and construction administration
- Contribute to the continued development and enhancement of the Buro Happold Lighting brand offering
Your skills and experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Design, Engineering, or a related field
- Approximately 1-4 years of professional experience in lighting design, daylighting, architectural lighting, or a related design field
- Experience contributing to lighting design projects from concept through detailed design
- Strong interest in architectural lighting design, daylighting analysis, and integrated building design
- Understanding of lighting design principles, daylighting, luminaires, controls, codes, and specifications
- Ability to produce and communicate design ideas through sketches, drawings, diagrams, reports, and digital modeling
- Experience using tools such as AGI, Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape, Photoshop, SketchUp, Rhino, Grasshopper, ElumTools, Dialux, Relux, Radiance, IES, or 3ds Max beneficial
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Strong conceptual, visual, written, and verbal communication skills
- Eagerness to continue learning, develop technical expertise, and contribute to creative project outcomes
- Previous lighting design internship or professional lighting design experience preferred

What we offer
- Salary range of $87,800 - $97,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
