Buro Happold is seeking a motivated and collaborative Graduate Urban Development Engineer to join our team and contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.
This role can be based in Los Angeles or New York. As an Urban Development Graduate Engineer you will be technically and creatively challenged on projects that include design support and innovation, high-performance strategies, materials research, energy, carbon, water and waste analysis and modeling and more. Your key duties
- Conduct energy, carbon, water, and/or waste analyses to identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and resource consumption, and to evaluate and measure outcomes
- Contribute to sustainability, resilience, climate action, and climate adaptation projects, supporting the development of strategic plans for clients across a range of sectors
- Prepare client deliverables including presentations, technical memoranda, reports, graphics, maps, and data visualizations
- Evaluate site-level sustainability strategies related to utilities, stormwater management, civil infrastructure, and/or multi-modal mobility systems
- Assess the feasibility of renewable energy systems and/or mobility solutions, research emerging technologies, and identify applicable funding and incentive opportunities
- Develop client-facing communication materials and dashboards that effectively convey technical findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, planners, and sustainability consultants in an interdisciplinary environment to deliver innovative and impactful solutions
Your skills and experience
The successful candidate will be on track to complete a bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, urban planning or policy, civil engineering, energy engineering, transportation planning, or a related field. The following skills and experiences are desirable:
- A passion for sustainable development and creating positive environmental and social impact
- Demonstrated interest in the built environment and sustainable infrastructure
- Experience using tools such as Revit, Rhino, GIS, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design and analysis software
- Graphic design skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite are preferred
- Previous internship, co-op, research, or relevant project experience in sustainability, planning, engineering, or a related field is advantageous
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to a variety of audiences
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn and develop professionally

What we offer
- Salary range of $80,000 to $83,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
