The Analytics & Crowd Dynamics team at Buro Happold is challenged with the most unique, interesting people-centric projects around the world. This requires us to be at the forefront of innovation in the field to address the complex challenges of analysis, optimisation and solutions for how people move and behave. We are disrupting how buildings and cities are planned, designed, and operated. We are putting people at the centre of decision making, using people flow simulations and other methods to analyse crowd behaviour, visitor movement and management. We are optimising spaces such as airports, museums, theatres, workplaces, stadia, campuses and urban spaces. We take pride in delighting our clients by providing practical solutions that have significant positive impact on user experience, the performance of the venue or space and facilitating crowd management.  

 

The work is highly varied and challenging, and would involve complex modelling work, as well as providing day to day design and management advice to architects and clients.

Key Duties: 

  • Work across several interesting projects from a diverse range of sectors from entertainment and sport venues, museums and cultural venues, transport hubs to city areas and some of the largest crowds in the world
  • Learn how to deliver top quality crowd flow / people movement consultancy working with our international clients and stakeholders.
  • Developing and honing your modelling skills, as well as providing day to day design and management advice to architects and clients.
  • Contribute fresh innovative ideas in group meetings and team discussions.
  • Support across a range of sectors developing an understanding of the standards and methods that are applied to different scenarios and the techniques used.
  • With support from senior consultants, deliver and be accountable for developing static and dynamic models, preparing reports and providing findings and recommendations based on the analysis and data.
  • Work alongside Project Managers to manage client expectations, carry out site observations and present project outcomes.

 

Your skills & experience: 

  • A degree in a relevant subject including but not limited to transport, mathematics, economics, statistics, operational research, geo-spatial analysis, physics, organizational psychology, and engineering.
  • Eagerness to learn and work as part of a specialist team working with a variety of disciplines
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Experience analysing and interpreting data sets. Ideally related to movement, spatial or  (crowd, pedestrian, transport, operations research etc.) but training will be provided
  • Awareness of crowd modelling packages and their applications is helpful: Legion, Pathfinder, Mass Motion, Viswalk etc. or other modelling background such as traffic microsimulation
  • Ability to present and communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner.
  • Interest and/or experience in visual programming to assist modelling (e.g. Grasshopper),
  • Desirable experience using GIS software to analyse and visualize geospatial data (ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Ability to present and communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office packages, in particular excel, word and powerpoint
