Environmental Engineer
We are looking for an experienced environmental Engineer, with a core background in delivering air quality consultancy services, to support the continued growth of our environmental consultancy offering. If you have a strong background in air quality, as well as an understanding of environmental design and assessment work and can work remotely from our Bengaluru Office to support our UK based staff, this could be an excellent opportunity to play a key role in an expanding, globally focused team.
The role will support with growing our air quality offering in both the UK and International Market, with a focus on the Middle East, working alongside our UK based air quality team. Beyond air quality, there will be opportunities to work closely with our team of generalist environmental planning consultants, delivering environmental strategies into design, as well as undertaking environmental impact assessments and strategic assessments internationally and in the UK.
The role will involve contributing technical expertise to a diverse portfolio of projects outside India, supporting the service line leads in project delivery and business development.

Our Air Quality service line sits within the Environmental Consulting Discipline at the heart of Buro Happold’s Cities UK Discipline Unit. While this role is based in Bengaluru, India, the role will be to support our UK Environmental Consulting Discipline, supporting the continued growth of our air quality capability. The role will also contribute more broadly to our international and UK-based project teams, working alongside generalist environmental planning consultants to deliver multidisciplinary environmental services.
We provide people with the opportunity to progress and work on interesting projects with a wide range of valued clients who operate both in the UK and internationally. This role will also allow for opportunities to collaborate with our wider Cities colleagues in India and be available to support in ensuring environmental and air quality considerations are included in proposals and projects in the sub-continent region.
The successful candidate will support a wide range of on-going projects across sectors including residential, science and technology, commercial, international, industrial and energy.
Your next role:
We are seeking an environmental Engineer with a strong air quality focus, that can also be involved with wider generalist environmental planning work. The successful candidate should demonstrate experience across the following key areas:
- Regulatory knowledge & wider environmental understanding
- Demonstrate an understanding of relevant legislation, policy, guidance and best practice in air quality
- Broad environmental knowledge, with experience contributing to generalist environmental planning work across EIA, ESIA and SEA projects
- Experience in related disciplines such as odour, dust risk, and ecological considerations; indoor air quality and building certifications (e.g. BREEAM, WELL, Air Rated) desirable
- Project delivery & leadership
- Experience leading or managing packages of work, including budgets, programmes and multidisciplinary coordination
- Understanding of SEA/ESIA processes, ideally with some level of project delivery inputs
- Analytical, digital & reporting skills
- Strong technical reporting skills
- Working knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and ability to analyse and present spatial data effectively
- Capability to communicate complex information clearly through reports, presentations and visual outputs, with awareness of emerging digital/AI tools

Your skills and experience
- 4 to 7 years’ experience in air quality and/or environmental consultancy
- Strong expertise in atmospheric dispersion modelling (ADMS Road, ADMS 6, AERMOD) and the ability to analyse and interpret data
- Proven track record delivering air quality assessments, including EIA/ES chapters and wider environmental inputs
- Relevant degree (e.g. environmental science, physics, chemistry, geography or similar), with postgraduate qualification preferred
- Environmental professional membership (or working towards)
- Excellent communication skills, with a proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to lead and respond effectively in challenging or fast-paced environments
