Your key duties

We are seeking an experienced GIS/BIM Systems Expert (Digital Twin) to lead the integration of geospatial and building information models into high fidelity digital twins for cities, infrastructure, and complex assets. The role focuses on structuring, managing, and connecting GIS and BIM data to support advanced analytics, visualisation, and real time operations within digital twin platforms. The GIS/BIM Systems Expert will work closely with planning, engineering, and digital teams to ensure data is accurate, interoperable, and optimised for immersive and web based environments

As an Engineer, you will take a lead role in shaping, developing, and delivering digital twin solutions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and manage GIS and BIM data models to support city , district , and asset scale digital twins.
  • Integrate BIM (e.g., Revit, IFC) and GIS (e.g., Esri, QGIS) datasets with 3D environments and digital twin platforms.
  • Develop and maintain processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from design and asset systems into digital twin solutions.
  • Ensure spatial accuracy, data quality, and standards compliance across all GIS/BIM inputs.
  • Collaborate with digital delivery, smart city, and engineering teams to translate project requirements into data and model specifications.
  • Optimise models for performance, including level of detail (LOD), tiling, and streaming for web and game engine environments.
  • Support the integration of operational and IoT data with GIS/BIM geometry for monitoring, simulation, and analytics use cases.
  • Produce clear documentation, metadata, and mapping standards to enable re use and scalability across projects.
  • Contribute to proposals, demonstrations, and client workshops focused on GIS/BIM enabled digital twins.

Your skills and experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with GIS and/or BIM on large projects (e.g., urban development, infrastructure, real estate).
  • Strong proficiency with BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, IFC workflows) and GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Demonstrated experience integrating BIM and GIS data into 3D or digital twin platforms.•    Solid understanding of spatial data standards, coordinate systems, and interoperability (e.g., CityGML, IFC, open geospatial standards).
  • Experience with geospatial and model data processing, scripting, or automation (e.g., Python, FME, Dynamo or similar).
  • Familiarity with 3D visualisation/game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity) or web based 3D/GIS frameworks is a strong advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in managing complex datasets and model coordination.

Academic qualifications

The role is suitable for candidates with a strong digital and design background. We would welcome applications from those with degrees in

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geomatics
  • GIS
  • Architecture
  • Civil Engineering
  • Urban Planning
  • or a related built environment or geospatial discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
