The purpose of this role is to provide vital support to the success of the acoustics team to deliver our clients projects. We have a number a growing number of exciting projects in the pipeline and are looking to recruit a senior acoustic consultant who can hit the ground running. 


Your next role:

  • Play a key role as a technical specialist in the Acoustics Group of Buro Happold.
  • Deliver technical work from initial design ideas, taking significant personal responsibility for the delivery of work
  • Assist in the running of acoustic projects with the Job Leaders
  • Deliver highest quality work in a timely manner.
  • Maintain good client relations throughout the job.
  • Maintaining awareness of project budgets and raising any concerns regarding budgetary or financial issues.
  • Ensuring project financial plans are up to date and accurate
  • Ensure team members are kept informed of important and relevant service/design decisions.
  • Ensuring all necessary BuroHappold staff are informed of relevant client matters.
  • Responsible for planning, organising and managing personal workload in order to meet deadlines in line with client commitments.
  • Proactively raising concerns regarding workload and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ensuring excellent communication within the team and with other stakeholders.


Your skills and experience:

  • Significant experience of engineering acoustics within buildings.
  • Demonstrable competence in making noise and vibration measurements. Evidence of appropriate training in the proper use of sound level meters is expected.
  • Competence with environmental noise surveys, and the field testing of room and architectural acoustics is expected.
  • Adept in the use of acoustic modelling packages is expected – CADNA and CATT Acoustics would be ideal.
  • First Degree in Engineering Acoustics, Electro-Acoustics or related disciplines such as Civil or Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Architecture, combination degrees of the former.
  • Professionally registered (CEng, IEng) with the Engineering Council UK or equivalent body. Full corporate membership of the Institute of Acoustics is expected.
  • Experience as a consultant able to propose multiple solutions to Clients and objectively summarise the benefits and shortfalls of each.
  • Must be able to clearly share complex technical ideas and concepts to both technical and non-
    technical audiences.
  • Deep technical experience of architectural/building acoustics, noise control engineering
  • Excellent calculation skills and attenuation to detail in checking others’ calculations.
  • Inquisitive approach and capable of producing innovative solutions.
  • Driven to produce highest quality work that meets customers’ needs – but at a profit.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Adaptable and prepared to offer a range of services in the long term.
  • Ability to accept a degree of responsibility for the department’s success in a team-based organisation,
    combined with ability to work independently.
